1850 Wayne Co, MS SHT 257, Ln 18 2 Oct 1850

I suspect that Amy is not the mother of Amy, but maybe the grandmother. I
think that Amy Moody was married to James Moody b.1774, Marion Co, SC. He was the son of Robert Moody, SR b.abt 1747 and d.22 Aug 1810. Robert is listed in the 1800 census of Marion Co, SC. James is listed in the 1830 census of Marion Co, SC. This family is treated very briefly in the book, THE MOODYS AND RELATED FAMILIES, by Virgil and Mary C. Moody. Virgil is deceased, but Mary is still
living and doing genealogical work. She lives in Arlington, TX. Hope that this helps.

Notes for JAMES MOODY:
This is the opening to "Frost Bridge History" compiled by Nettie Norton, Aug., 1917

"In 1834 or 1835 great-great-grandfather, James Moody, sold his property in Marion District, S. C., and with his nine stalwart sons: Arvin, Robert, Merritt, Harrison, Gadi, Allen, James, Emanuel, and Curtis: and four daughters, Stacy Anne, Gatsey, Allifair, and Mary and her husband, Henry Paul, together with their slaves set out in wagons for the new state of Mississippi. Arriving in Mississippi they settled in eastern Wayne County along Buccatunna Creek, near a crude puncheon bridge, called Frost Bridge from an early settler, who with his slaves erected it.   Soon after their coming Allifair married Angus McDonald, a South Carolinian, and Stacy Anne was married to William Waltman.  About two years after arriving they all entered government land at the land office which was in Augusta, Perry County, Mississippi, and in another year they had built homes and were engaged in farming.  The entire family was deeply religious; and there being no church near, they built a small log church ¼ mile south of the bridge on the east bank of Buccatunna.  It was floored with puncheons, the cover weighted with logs, and the seats made of split logs.  This church was Methodist, and was called Salem."

Notes for JOHN W WALTMAN:
Leon County Historical Collections, vol 1,pg18&19 "John W. Waltman, one of the shrewed, progressive, energetic business men of Leon County,is the subject of this sketch.A man
of unquestioned integrity and of unlimited credit,he is one of the prominent men of the town of Jewett. John was the son of W.H.Waltman,who was born in Louisiana, October 30,1810,and removed from there to Mississippi when a young man, where he resided until 1857, when he again removed, this time to Smith county, but remained there but a year, going thence to Nacogdoches county and in 1860 to Leon county. In 1880 he moved to Jewett, where he died in the following spring. By occupation he was a farmer, fairly prosperous, and a man of considerable intelligence. In politics he was a Democrat of the Jackson type, was a valued member of the Masonic fraternity, and has long followed the teachings of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He was the son of John and Mary(Hamilton). Waltman served under General Jackson at the battle of New Orleans, and after the war came home and settled down to his occupation as a farmer. The family name is well known in Germany, from which country the ancestors of our subject came.                                 ( This has to be Stacy Anne)
The mother of our subject was named Statian (Moody) Waltman, a native of South Carolina. She was the daughter of James and Amy (Roberts) Moody, natives of South Carolina. The parents of John W., our subject, were married in 1842,and from this union were born six children, viz: The oldesdt was our subject; Amy, deceased; Emeline, who is the wife of W.S. Deberry, of Coryell county, town of Gateville; Elizabeth, who is the wife of W.A. Knight, of Waxahachie; Alafair, who is the wife of Rev. S J Franks, a Methodist minister now residing in Ellis county;and James W, who resides in Jewett. Our subject was born in Wayne County, Mississippi, February 24, 1843, and he came to Texas in 1858 and to Leon County in 1860. He remained with his parents until 1865, when he was married. In 1862 he had enlisted in Company D, Gould's battalion, dismounted cavalry, in Randal's brigade, Walker's division, and was discharged May 20, 1865 at Leona, in Leon County. He then returned home and was married, November 9, 1865. At once he bought a farm of his father, and upon this place our subject and wife resided until 1880, when he removed to Jewett and took charge of the management of the store known as the Leon County Co-operative Association, which position he has since held. The marriage of our subject was celebrated with Miss Fanny J Curry, a native of Alabama, and she came to Texas with her parents, John M and Martha Curry, natives of Tennessee and Alabama respectively. Mr and Mrs Waltman are the parents of eleven children, as follows: Mattie, deceased; Leonard D is bookkeeper for Mr Levy; William M; Cora; Davis, deceased; Mack, Hettie, Johnnie, Edward, Sylvan and an infant. Mr Waltman began life for himself at the age of nineteen years and has received no assistance since that time, being a self-made man. The old home farm contained 320 acres, and now our subject owns 1,250 acres of land, 185 under cultivation, besides town property, and seventy-five head of stock. In politics he is a Democrat, and socially he is a member of the Masonic order. He also belongs to the K of H and the Grange, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Co-operative Association, having been elected for ten years, and also holds the position of manager of the Leon County Association. Both Mr Waltman and his wife are active members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, in which he is a Steward
