News & Events
A group of volunteers from Judson College helped recently with the Sowing
Seeds of Hope project of cataloging artifacts from the Lincoln School in
Marion, Alabama to aid the ongoing
effort of Lincoln alumni to establish the Lincoln School Museum.

The Sowing Seeds of Hope Lincoln School initiative is led by Judson
College History Professor Dr. Richard Neely and Mrs. Nora Douglas, a student at
Judson College. Many Lincoln alumni, including Lincoln Museum curator Lorenzo
Curry and Mrs. Willie May Crews, are assisting with the cataloging and helping
the volunteers identify the items and establish their significance.
Mrs. Crews gave a presentation on the importance of the Lincoln School at
the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship annual conference in Huntsville, Alabama, on
November 12. Mr. Lorenzo Curry, Dr. Neely and Mrs. Douglas set up a display for
the conference and were on hand to answer questions about the historic school.
THE FUN WAS GROWING AT PERRY COUNTY LIBRARIES
In the month of March Judson College
students Amanda Tacon, Keisha Hobbes, Jennie Galloway and Heather Eiland hosted
story hours in Perry County Libraries. The girls read a story about a pumpkin
seed. The children in attendance had a special treat, a cup full of soil with a
pumpkin seed, so they could have their own pumpkin.
Marion Library readers Amanda Tacon and Keisha Hobbes got a pleasant surprise
as a young lady in attendance volunteered to read a story to the group.
Literacy Program Coordinator Nora Douglas watched the story hour and said
"Inspiring a love of reading is what it is all about." Marion Library
will have story hours on April 9th and 16th and Uniontown Library will have
theirs 11th and 18th from 4-5 p.m.
Sowing Seeds of Hope is a faith-based program, which seeks to improve the
general quality of life for the people in Perry County. If you would like to
know how you could get involved, please contact John Martin at (334) 683-4666

Current Projects:
The Housing Task Force has two big
projects underway: Building a kitchen for a church, and a pavilion and restroom
facility for the Lincoln Museum. Also, they have a list that contains over
ninety homes that need repairs. Last year the cost for each home was
approximately eighteen hundred dollars.
The Arts and Humanities has a need for
scholarship funding for eight students in their dancing program. For each
student, the required amount is five hundred dollars.
The Education Task Force works with the
Marion Public Library and Uniontown Public Library to bring story hour for
children. The story hours for children are as follows:
- Marion- April 9th and April 16th, from 4 to 5 PM
- Uniontown - April 11th and April 18th, from 4 to 5 PM.
The Education Task Force is requesting people to donate brand-new books for
the summer reading program. If anyone one is able to do that, please contact
Sowing Seeds of Hope.
